I haven’t updated Matt’s situation for a long time.
Matthew has been back in jail for the past month.
Since he committed a felony on June 6th he has been in 1. Jail 2. Recovery and shelter for 2 weeks when he had another psychotic break 3. Back to jail for 2 weeks where he developed wounds that got infected and had to be surgically cleaned out
So was in and out of the hospital 3 times for that.
- psychiatric hospital for one month; waiting for a forensic exam which would of made it possible for him to go to the State psychiatric hospital and be given a GEI (guilty except for insanity) plea.
The forensic exam never happened at the psych hospital so after a month or so Matt had to go back to jail, where he became extremely depressed and manic as he was not taking his meds most days. After repeated calls to the jail where I talked to several people who believed Matt needed to go to the State Hospital.
After about a month in jail Matt was sent to the State Hospital where he finally was able to receive the therapeutic care he so needed. He was given a kind and wonderful psychiatrist at the Hospital and as the days went by he was finally out of his psychosis which lasted for months and was when he received a new diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. As if being on the Autism Spectrum (high functioning) having severe depression, anxiety, OCD, and diagnosed with bi-polar 1 about 2 years ago; wasn’t enough!!
After a little over a month in the State Hospital Matt was finally able to have the forensic exam he should have had months ago. By this time Matt was stable and doing better. So…… back to jail he went. He has been back in jail a month now and is going to be going before a judge tomorrow to see if he is eligible for mental health court. I may be wrong in saying this because Matt told me yesterday on the phone that he was given an assessment over the phone and that he will be finding out tomorrow when he goes before a judge if he can be given the help and aide he can receive and then be put on probation.
Some of the things that will be required of Matt if he is able to get out of jail on probation are that he stays clean and sober, does counseling, possibly alcohol rehab, 12 step meetings, meeting regularly with probation office, and a few other requirements. In turn they will help him
find housing, help him get back on his SSI which he had been on since he was 19. There will be other supports put in place as well.
The reason I am writing this very long post is that I would like to ask those of you who believe in the power of prayer to keep Matthew in your prayers.
Matt has been so down and negative as he has waited so long to get anything done.
He has the thought that he will not meet the requirements and will end up in prison. He has been experiencing some delusional thinking and has told me over and over that he believes he is in Hell. He was telling me again today that he will
probably not get out on probation since it seems like everything has been so depressing for so long.
I told Matt that he needs to stop thinking the worse and believe that he will be given the chance to receive probation and the help he so needs to become a productive member of society.
He has lost faith and is so discouraged.
I believe in prayer and continually turn Matt over to God and ask his will to be done. I would be insane with all that has transpired in months since his incarceration if it weren’t for my belief in God and prayer.
I thank any of you who have actually read this very
Long post to the end and again ask for you
Prayers for Matt.
